Last year, I made the conscious decision that I will take a trip for my birthday every year if possible. I hate that I am just now getting to tell you all about that trip! As most moms, we tend to focus our time and conversation on our children. You all have heard me talk about parenting difficulties, the struggles of being a nurse, mom and wife and so many other things. It’s time that I finally talk to you about something positive and fun that I did for once!
Initially, I attempted to plan a girl’s trip down to Orlando. I invited 7 other people. Interesting enough, only my little sister came to celebrate with me. And boy did my birthday teach me how important I am to other people, but that’s another story for another day.
My sister and I went down to Orlando, Florida for 3 nights and stayed at the beautiful Loews Portofino Bay Hotel. This luxury hotel’s design is inspired by Portofino, Italy. It surely did not disappoint! Every detail from the architecture to the restaurants made you feel like you were enjoying a little piece of Italy. I seriously can not wait to take my family here for a family vacation
I decided early on that I wanted to do something fun for my birthday. As afraid of heights as I am, I absolutely love thrills and amusement parks. I can’t get enough of rollercoasters! Seriously! I could legit ride them all day. Universal Studios was an amazing combination of roller coasters and 3-D Rides. And not to mention how The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was!
Thursday was a travel day for us. Hurricane Michael made landfall in Augusta, Georgia the night before we were supposed to leave for the trip. Unfortunately, a good friend of mine that was supposed to come couldn’t because her flight was cancelled. After watching the weather carefully, my sister and I decided to make the drive down. We didn’t experience a single drop of rain on the trip down to Florida. When we arrived in Orlando, the weather was beautiful and sunny the entire trip. We arrived and spent the evening exploring the beautiful grounds and relaxing.
On Friday, my birthday, we woke up early and excited to go experience Universal Studios. Neither of us have ever been there. It was awesome doing this for the first time with my little sister. I don’t even know if I can pick a favorite ride. Every detail is so well thought out and intricate. They truly bring the rides to life. Transformers and The Mummy were two that stand out to me.
While others were not as adventure packed, the story was very fun and memorable. As much as I love The Fast and the Furious franchise, it wasn’t my favorite attraction. The set up was still cool though!
I wish we had more time to experience Universal Studios but squeezing everything in to two days was tough. The ride back to the hotel via boat was the perfect way to wind down and relax. What an amazing way to end a wonderful day!
After we rested, we decided to go experience other areas of Orlando.
Then we went back to the hotel and shared an amazing birthday dinner. I’m 100% for room service. Back then I was eating steak and I remember it being so delicious.
On Saturday we woke up early to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It opens earlier than the rest of the theme park, which was great because we are early birds. We didn’t get to spend a ton of time there, but it was a cool experience. I truly feel it needs its own dedicated day. Maybe we can make this happen next year!
After Harry Potter World, we took the Hogwart’s express train to Islands of Adventure. We had to wait in line for maybe 30 minutes, but it was worth it. The train ride itself was cool. You even get to experience a bit of Harry Potter magic on the ride. I don’t want to ruin the surprise for future visitors.
There was more Harry Potter fun once we got off the train. Unfortunately, we had to fast track it through that area so that we could experience the rest of the park. The Harry Potter ride in the castle was legit the BEST, though. Seriously. It was awesome. Definitely a favorite for the trip.
After that, we experienced the rest of the park. My only negative was the Poseidon’s Fury attraction. Definitely a waste of time. It is very beautiful, but the experience isn’t worth the time. It literally takes over 1 hr. Don’t do it.
We also got to see some cool characters while on this side of the park.
After our last day at the park, we decided to just relax the rest of the day. Jazmyne took a nap and I went to relax by the pool. Their customer service was even more amazing poolside. They have a waiter and bartender poolside and they even brought out complimentary frozen grapes. Can you say “spoiled?”
Overall, this experience was one that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I’ve never had a birthday party or done something like this for myself. The purpose of this trip was to make sure I felt my birthday was a priority for once. I decided then that I will always attempt to take a trip for my birthday if I’m able. It’s so easy to just ignore our big moments because we’re so busy planning the next one for our loved ones and children. Now, it’s time to start planning the next one.
